South Sprigg Street: From Shawnee Parkway/Route 74 to Southern Expressway

Street project to remove and replace curb and gutter and sidewalks, mill and overlay from Shawnee Parkway/Route 74 to Southern Expressway.

Every five years since first approved in 1995, voters have renewed the Transportation Trust Fund 0.5% sales tax (TTF). In 2020, voters approved the plan to fix several major street sections, and annual funding for asphalt overlays and concrete repairs across the city. The TTF6 of 2020 vote is currently funding repairs to Lexington, and will soon support major renovation to Sprigg, Bertling, and other locations. The Transportation Trust Fund (TTF) is a transportation sales tax (0.5%, a half-cent per dollar spent) voted on by the citizens of Cape Girardeau. All TTF revenue funds transportation improvement projects approved by voters such as recent renovations to Lexington Avenue, and annual budgets for asphalt overlays and concrete slab replacements.

TTF projects are funded on a “pay-as-you-go” basis so that no money is borrowed to fund the projects. This tax spreads the cost of improvement projects to everyone who uses the streets instead of just Cape Girardeau property owners. General projects are included to keep City streets in fair condition. The TTF was first approved by voters in 1995, and has been renewed every five years since.
