Cape Girardeau, MO – Cape Girardeau Public Schools (CGPS) is pleased to announce the hiring of LaMont Frazier as the new boys’ head basketball coach at Cape Central High School and Sommer McCauley-Perdue as the new head volleyball coach. Both coaches bring extensive experience and a rich history of athletic achievement to the Tiger athletic program.

LaMont Frazier: New Boys’ Head Basketball Coach

LaMont Frazier arrives at Cape Central High with an impressive coaching background. Over the past seven seasons in Rogers, Arkansas, he led his teams to the 6A playoffs four times, earning him the title of regional coach of the year. Prior to his success in Arkansas, Frazier made a significant impact in the SEMO Conference. He coached Poplar Bluff’s program to a state playoff appearance during his six seasons with the Mules and later led the Willard program to three district titles and a state quarterfinals appearance.

A native of Charleston, Missouri, Frazier was the SEMO Conference Player of the Year in 1990. He is a three-time state champion in basketball and earned all-state honors in both basketball and football. Frazier continued his athletic career at the University of Missouri-Columbia (MIZZOU), where he played basketball for four years, serving as team captain for two seasons. He also played tight end for the football team, earning All-Big 8 honors.

Frazier holds a bachelor’s degree in science from MIZZOU, a master’s degree in secondary administration from William Woods University, and a master’s in athletic administration from Central Missouri State. He is a certified teacher in physical education and social science. Frazier and his wife Leslie have two daughters, Alison Lauren, and Ana Laurel.

Sommer McCauley-Perdue: New Head Volleyball Coach

Sommer McCauley-Perdue brings a wealth of experience to her new role as head volleyball coach at Cape Central High. For the past six years, she has worked as a private high school volleyball trainer and instructor. She has also been an assistant coach for the CHS girls’ basketball team and served as the head coach for the Terry W. Kitchen Central Junior High girls’ basketball team, leading them to one of their most successful seasons.

Nicknamed “Showtime” during her high school years, McCauley-Perdue was a standout athlete at Notre Dame High School. She led her teams to two final four appearances in volleyball and three in basketball, including a state title in 2002. She was named Southeast Missouri Player of the Year in both sports in 2003 and 2004 and earned all-state, all-region, and all-district honors.

McCauley-Perdue continued her athletic career at Jefferson College in Hillsboro, Missouri, where she helped win back-to-back conference titles in volleyball and basketball. She then attended Missouri Baptist University, earning a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a minor in marketing in 2010.

In addition to her coaching duties, McCauley-Perdue is actively involved in the Cape Girardeau community. She serves on the Cape Girardeau Planning and Zoning Commission and is a board member of the PORCH Initiative, which aims to empower South Cape Girardeau. She and her husband, Marchellu, have four children: Karis, Lovely, Marchellu Jr., and Nalaiya.
