Community Gathering Set for Friday, June 6 at Peace Park
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO – SEMO Moms Demand Action invites the public to a powerful community event to commemorate National Gun Violence Awareness Day. Taking place at Peace Park in downtown Cape Girardeau, this annual gathering brings together survivors, advocates, and local leaders to remember lives lost and commit to building a safer future.

This year marks the ninth consecutive Wear Orange event in Cape Girardeau, part of a national movement that began in memory of Hadiya Pendleton, a Chicago teen whose life was tragically cut short by gun violence in 2013. Her friends chose to wear orange—the color hunters
The color orange is a symbol of life and safety. It honors victims and survivors of gun violence and calls attention to the urgent need for prevention efforts nationwide. Across the U.S., individuals and organizations wear orange in early June
“Wear Orange is about coming together to show our collective power and to say loud and clear that we demand an end to gun violence,” said Ramona Bailey, organizer with SEMO Moms Demand Action.

- The Be SMART team distributing free gun locks to promote safe firearm storage

Community Service Project
Attendees are encouraged to support the Women in Action Summer Reading Program hosted by community partner, St. James AME Church by donating new or gently used children’s books. Donations can be brought to the event or dropped off at St. James AME Church, 516 North St. Cape Girardeau, MO
