According to projections from the airline industry, there will be a global demand for over 600,000 new pilots and 700,000 technicians within the next 20 years. To meet this growing need, school districts nationwide must start preparing students for lucrative careers in aviation and aerospace.
The Harold S. Jones Fine Arts Center is hosting an Aviation Industry Workshop designed to introduce high school students to a range of aviation careers, including airline pilots, drone pilots, flight attendants, aircraft maintenance, and airport management. Industry professionals will provide hands-on guidance, giving students a first-hand look at what it takes to succeed in these high-paying fields. As part of the workshop, students will have access to a real airplane for a comprehensive learning experience.
Workshop Overview: The event is divided into two informative sessions. The first session, held at the Fine Arts Center, will be a classroom-style seminar where instructors and industry speakers discuss various aviation jobs and share insights from their personal career journeys.
In the second session, students will be transported to Cairo Regional Airport for an interactive tour of an aircraft. Led by a professional pilot, participants will explore the cockpit, review the instrument panel, and learn how the various components work together to make an aircraft fly. The session will also include a live drone flight demonstration.
The workshop is free to all area high school students, and snacks will be provided. Students will also be provided with transportation home following the event.
