Malcolm Burks, a resilient child of God, embodies the transformative power of faith and perseverance. His journey, marked by loss, addiction, and redemption, is a testament to the strength that comes from within when one finds their true self and purpose.
Malcolm’s story begins with a challenging childhood in St. Louis, where he was forced to fend for himself from the age of 12. After a troubled youth filled with homelessness and incarceration, he eventually found solace and direction at the Gibson Recovery Center in Cape Girardeau in 1995. It was here that he began the process of healing and self-discovery, realizing that the life he had been living was not a reflection of who he truly was. With the guidance of the center and his newfound faith, Malcolm made the decision to turn his life around.
Determined to make something of himself, Malcolm set his sights on a career in trucking and real estate. He successfully pursued both, but his personal life remained tumultuous. He faced the heartbreak of a failed relationship and the unimaginable pain of losing his daughter during the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the distance, his daughter had been calling out for him, but his work kept him on the road, unable to be by her side. The news of her passing devastated him, leading to a period of deep depression and relapse into addiction. However, Malcolm’s faith never wavered. After nearly losing his life to an overdose, he knew he needed help once again. He returned to the Gibson Center, determined to reclaim his life, and rebuild his future. This time, his focus was on more than just personal recovery; he wanted to create something meaningful that could help others in similar situations.

Malcolm reached out to Rose, a woman with whom he had a long history. Together, they had purchased a house over two decades ago, a house that had fallen into disrepair after being vandalized during the pandemic. Rose offered Malcolm the chance to restore the home, and he saw it as a divine opportunity to give back. Despite the extensive damage, Malcolm took on the challenge, using his own money and skills to rebuild the house, piece by piece.
The house became more than just a renovation project; it became the foundation for a new vision—Lamb Solutions: A Spiritual Solution to a Better Way of Living. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing sober living accommodations for men who, like Malcolm, are emerging from addiction and seeking a path to stability. The program is rooted in spirituality, not religion, and emphasizes the importance of community, self-discovery, and the belief in a higher power.
Lamb Solutions currently has the capacity to house four men, providing them with a safe, supportive environment where they can focus on rebuilding their lives. The funds collected from rent go directly back into the nonprofit, covering utilities, food, clothing, and other essentials for the residents. Malcolm’s vision is to expand this initiative, eventually providing more housing for homeless veterans and individuals with disabilities, ensuring that no one in need is left without a place to call home.
In addition to the house in Cape Girardeau, Malcolm and Rose also own another property on Frederick Street. The foundation of this house is in disrepair, but they have plans to rebuild it from the ground up,
Burks is working on obtaining grants to expand Lamb Solutions and to build a home specifically for homeless veterans, a cause close to his heart.
He hopes to make the new property wheelchair accessible and create a space where veterans can live with dignity while receiving the support they need to get back on their feet.
Today, Malcolm Burks stands as a testament to the power of redemption.
His life is dedicated to giving back to others in ways that reflect the compassion and strength he has found within himself.
Through his unwavering faith and commitment to helping others, Burks has turned his past struggles into a future filled with hope for those who need it most.
As Burks continues to work on his mission, he remains focused on his ultimate goal: ensuring that no one leaving treatment centers has to face the uncertainty of homelessness.
For him, Lamb Solutions is more than just a place to stay—it’s a lifeline for men seeking a fresh start, and a beacon of hope that reminds us all that, with faith and determination, even the most broken lives can be rebuilt.
Malcolm’s journey is far from over, but his story is one of hope, resilience, and unwavering faith.
Through Lamb Solutions, he is not only rebuilding his life but also creating a legacy of compassion and support for others who are walking the path of recovery.
