“Oh, I say and I say it again. You’ve been had! Ya been took! Ya been hoodwinked! Bamboozled! Led astray! Run amok! This is what he does!” from the movie Malcolm X

In the ever-churning political landscape, former President Donald Trump continues to wield influence, even after leaving Office. His recent assertions about Black support have sparked both curiosity and skepticism. But let us not be swayed by smoke and mirrors; instead, let’s dissect the reality behind the rhetoric.

“Black voters love me,” boasts Trump. His claims echo across social media platforms, punctuated by triumphant emojis and exclamation marks. But are these assertions grounded in truth, or are they mere illusions?

Let’s consult the data. Black voters, historically aligned with the Democratic party, have consistently favored Democratic candidates. The eight-to-one ratio in favor of President Biden over Trump in most polls underscores this preference. So, what’s the catch?

Trump revels in the endorsement of a so called, Black Lives Matter activist, parading it as a sign of widespread Black support. But let’s dissect this endorsement. It’s akin to a single raindrop claiming credit for a deluge. Individual endorsements do not sway the tide of collective sentiment.

“Don’t fall for it,” whispers the ghost of reason. Trump’s claims are a textbook example of gaslighting — a psychological manipulation technique. By pumping fumes of misinformation into the air, he aims to leave us dizzy, questioning our own reality. But we must stand firm.

While Trump’s claims may be theatrical, the real battleground lies in voter turnout. Apathy, not defection, poses the greatest risk for President Biden among Black voters. Republican-led legislatures, emboldened by Trump’s narrative, are tightening their grip on voting rights. They restrict voter registration, limit ballot drop-off options, and reduce polling sites. Their goal? Suppress minority turnout. Enter the Honest Elections Project, a right-wing group that echoes Trump’s base. Their mission? To perpetuate the myth of a stolen election, targeting areas with predominantly Democratic minority voters. Their playbook is cunningly deceptive. Jason Snead, the group’s executive director, contends that the Voting Rights Act was never intended to hinder Republican-majority legislatures from enacting “election integrity laws and redistricting practices.” But this interpretation conveniently ignores history.

The Brennan Center for Justice paints a grim picture: at least 14 states have enacted laws this year, further restricting voting access. The trend persists, disproportionately affecting minority communities.

As we navigate Biden’s second term, let’s remain vigilant. Trump’s claims may dazzle, but the battle for Black voters transcends illusions. Our democracy hinges on informed choices, not smoke and mirrors. Let’s protect every citizen’s right to vote, unmasking the illusion one truth at a time. President Joe Biden’s administration although not perfect has made significant strides in addressing the needs and concerns of Black Americans. From economic empowerment to voting rights, let’s explore the accomplishments that directly impact the African American community.

Judicial Appointments and Representation

In his first two years in office, President Biden nominated at least 25 Black judges to the federal court, emphasizing diversity and representation. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson became the first Black woman to be nominated to the Supreme Court, a groundbreaking achievement.

Voting Rights and Access

In March 2021, President Biden enacted a sweeping executive order directing federal agencies to expand access to voting. This move aimed to protect voting rights and combat voter suppression.

Black enrollment in HealthCare.gov coverage increased by 400,000, or 49%, from 2020 to 2022, ensuring better access to healthcare for African Americans.

Economic Progress

Record-Low Unemployment: Under Biden’s leadership, the Black unemployment rate reached its lowest point on record. The administration achieved the highest Black employment rate since November 2000 and the highest Black labor force participation rate since August 2008. The President’s policies contributed to creating more than 13 million jobs, benefiting Black workers and their families. “Joe Biden has now created more jobs in less than three years than any president created in four, cleaning up the economic disaster left by Trump.

Addressing Student Debt:

President Biden’s decision to forgive thousands of dollars in student debt directly benefits African American students, who are disproportionately impacted by student loans. Although legal challenges have temporarily halted the program, its potential impact remains significant.

Police Reform and Criminal Justice

While comprehensive police reform remains a challenge, the Biden administration has been actively engaged in discussions around racial justice, policing, and criminal justice reform. Initiatives include promoting community policing, addressing systemic issues, and advocating for accountability. President Biden’s commitment to Black Americans extends beyond campaign promises but demonstrate a genuine effort to uplift the African American community. Vote and send to congress the help the President needs to help you.
