Mounds, IL
The African American Museum in Mounds, Illinois, sponsored a project to support members of the Meridian High School Class of 2025 as they prepare for life after graduation—whether pursuing higher education, entering the workforce, or exploring new opportunities.
To carry out the project, the museum organized a special committee, which worked in partnership with a committee formed by Meridian High School. Together, they selected a group of deserving students to receive Start-Up Funds raised through generous donations from local businesses, organizations, and individuals, both within and beyond the Meridian community.
The following students have been named as this year’s recipients:
Christian Nowak, Jared Medlock, Kevin Emanuel, Corban Boles, Nyriah Overton, Cyr’Meice Bailey-Mackins, Kenyel Gilbert, and Othman Abukhdair

Each student will receive a financial award of $800, along with a 16×20 photo collage, a certificate of achievement, and an individual portrait as a token of recognition and encouragement.
Mr. Eason, project chairperson for the Mounds African American Museum, expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the project. “We are proud to invest in the futures of these exceptional young people,” Mr. Eason said. “This support reflects our community’s belief in their potential and our commitment to their success.”
He also extended heartfelt thanks to both selection committees and offered special appreciation to all who contributed financially to make this initiative possible.
The museum hopes this project will continue in future years as a way to celebrate and empower young people in the region.
