Cairo, IL— APRIL 1, 2025 — The Cairo Historical Preservation Project, Inc. (TCHPP) is excited to be hosting its 4th Annual Cairo Magnolia Celebration on Saturday, May 3. This year, the format has changed from a ticketed meal fundraiser to a day-long event providing as many people as possible the opportunity to experience the richness of Cairo’s historical treasures for themselves.

Event Chairperson and Board Director Robbin Ramey-Patterson explained, “While opportunity will be provided to financially support our historical preservation mission, the 2025 Cairo Magnolia Celebration is free of charge. Our focus this year is to show off as much of our hometown as possible by partnering with local churches, homeowners, and our friends at Shawnee Mass Transit District.”

This year’s event has three parts: a morning open house by city churches from 10:00-12:00 pm (including a guided narrated tour from 9:45-12:00 of private homes) with an optional prayer gathering for the city of Cairo from 12:00-12:30; self-guided tours of Cairo’s Points of Interest and well-known public buildings (Magnolia Manor, the Custom House, the Safford Library, and Ward Chapel AME Church) from 12:30-3:30; and a public refreshment reception and Q&A with the TCHPP, Inc. board to end the Celebration, hosted by the Harold Jones Fine Arts Center (815 Commercial Avenue).
